PETA’s Thanksgiving post of turkeys as humans goes viral, gets slammed and fact checked

PETA got fact checked for a Thanksgiving post in which the organization stated, “We’re lucky turkeys would never do this to us — you don’t have to do it them, either.”

The comment was illustrated by artwork of turkeys sitting around a Thanksgiving table with a headless human on a platter.

PETA posted on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, and it has been viewed more than 29 million times. The organization got fact checked, however,

“Turkeys are not vegetarians,” according to the Community Note. “Turkeys eat mice, lizards, frogs, and just about anything they can fit in their mouth. If turkeys were larger or had the technological means to farm and eat humans, their current diet reveals they likely would.”
