Police say one person was injured when shots were fired between two vehicles on Highway 53 in Madison County.

Brent Patterson of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office told AL.com the shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Harvest around the Redstone Federal Credit Union, near the intersection with Jeff Road.

Part of Highway 53 in Harvest is closed and Patterson urged drivers to use alternate routes if possible, as there will be a heavy law enforcement presence at the scene of the shooting.

Patterson said one person was transported to Huntsville Hospital with injuries sustained during the shooting. His condition is unknown.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. No additional information is available at publication time.
