Thompson blitzes Oak Mountain for easy win
Thompson scored at will during the first half against Oak Mountain, running for three touchdowns and returning two interceptions for scores as the Warriors cruised to a 51-0 victory over the Eagles.
Class 7A second-ranked Thompson (6-2, 5-0) scored 37 first half points behind an explosive offense and smothering defense against Oak Mountain (2-6, 0-5) in the Region 3 game.
Thompson held the Eagles to 14 yards of total offense in the first half and returned two interceptions for touchdowns, adding a third interception touchdown in the third period.
Seth Hampton started the scoring by returning an errant Will O’Dell pass for a score while Payton Lewis picked off an O’Dell pass for a 20-0 lead following a 1-yard TD run by AJ Green. Anquon Fegans made it three TD interception returns with a third quarter pick.
The Warriors offense got in on the fun, amassing 220 first half yards as quarterback Zach Sims completed all three of his first half passes for 85 yards.
Thompson finished with 311 yards of total offense, 145 through the air and 166 on the ground.
In addition to the three interception returns for scores, the Warriors got two rushing touchdowns from Green and another from Michael Dujon while Trent Seaborn threw a 15-yard scoring strike to Angel Jones and John McGuire booted a 42-yard field goal.
The Thompson defense held Oak Mountain to 69 total yards on 47 plays and picked off five passes.
