Northport police have charged an 80-year-old man with shooting his 79-year-old wife to death.

According to police, officers were called to a residence in the 3200 block of 28th Street in Northport Sunday at about 12 p.m.

Officers arrived to find the body of a 79-year-old woman, identified as Donna Adams, dead from a gunshot wound. 

Her husband, Gerald Adams, 80, was still on the scene and was taken into custody. 

According to police, Donna Adams had been suffering from a prolonged illness. There was no evidence of an argument prior to the shooting. 

Gerald Adams has been charged with murder and is being held in the Tuscaloosa County jail with no bond, pursuant to Aniah’s Law.  

The case is still under investigation.
