Alabama football holds spot in coaches poll after near upsets
Alabama football continues to pass the eye test and earn rave reviews by national pundits. But the coaches poll gave the Tide its same ranking for the fifth consecutive week.
Alabama was listed eighth in the US LBM coaches poll released on Sunday morning. Alabama remained behind Washington, Oregon and Texas outside the top four. While some of the teams vying for the College Football Playoff struggled on Saturday, UA stomped Chattanooga 66-10, earning its ninth straight victory.
The top eight teams stayed the same, though Ohio State jumped Michigan. The Associated Press Top 25 will be released at around 1 p.m. CT. UA (10-1, 7-0 SEC) has been No. 8 in the AP since Oct. 29.
Michigan, in its second game without Jim Harbaugh, outlasted Maryland by seven. Florida State rallied against North Alabama but lost its starting quarterback to injury. Washington and Texas eeked out victories over Oregon State and Iowa State, respectively.
Alabama’s best wins remain the victories over No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 14 LSU. Tennessee dropped to No. 24 after its fourth loss, and second in a row, a 38-10 drubbing by Georgia in Knoxville.
