Police are investigating an afternoon shooting that left a man seriously injured.

The gunfire erupted at 4:01 p.m. in the 2600 block of Avenue C in Birmingham.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported the victim to UAB Hospital. His injuries are life-threatening.

No one is in custody.
