Mobile man sentenced to 80 years without parole for sodomizing child under 12

A Mobile man was sentenced to 80 years after pleading guilty to two counts of sodomizing a child under the age of 12, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Calvin Carnell Law, 33, was indicted in March 2020 after the child victim had come forward a few months earlier. Judge Ben Brooks passed sentence on Law Wednesday, according to court records.

The district attorney’s Child Victim Prosecution Team and the Child Advocacy Center worked together on the case.

“With the help of a courageous child and the expertise of the Child Victim Prosecution Team at the DA’s office, Calvin Law will never be able to harm another child again,” said district attorney Keith Blackwood.

Law has a lengthy criminal history, according to Mobile Metro Jail records. His prior arrests include multiple drug charges, multiple charges of 1st degree theft and loitering for the purpose of drug activity.

The jail docket indicates he’s still awaiting trial for possession of a controlled substance.
