Crime and punishment

Two convicted murderers were sentenced Wednesday in notable cases in St. Clair County, reports AL.com’s Carol Robinson.

Tapero Carleone Johnson was sentenced to death for killing Moody Police Sgt. Stephen Williams in June 2020.

Johnson claimed the killing was an accident, but the jury wasn’t having it after 43 rounds were fired at Sgt. Williams through a motel room door and wall.

Also on Wednesday, A circuit-court judge sentenced Andray LaQuarn Pope Jr. to 30 years in prison for shooting and killing 67-year-old Brian Shaw in 2021 in Odenville.

Movin’ on out

A recent study indicates that members of the millennial generation have been moving out of their parents’ homes in force, at least in Birmingham, reports The Birmingham Lede’s Heather Gann.

The rental database RentCafe used Census data to determine that in Birmingham there was a 50-percent decrease of Millennials living at home with their parents over the past five years.

Of course, economic factors affect the decrease in multigenerational households. Birmingham placed high — ninth in the nation — for its decrease in Millennials still living at home over that five-year period, and a possible reason for that is the Magic City’s lower-than-average housing costs.

Millennials, by the way, are between 27 and 42 years old, which means we can expect a LOT of mid-life crisis Instagram stories over the next few years.

Turkey Day marching

The state of Alabama will be represented Thanksgiving morning in New York City.

AL.com’s Haley Laurence reports that the Alabama A&M University Marching Maroon and White will be marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Make sure you turne in early because it’s supposed to be the first marching band featured. Coverage starts at 8:30 a.m. on NBC or Peacock TV.

Also, the Dancing Divas from Alabama A&M will perform with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.

It’ll get you warmed up for turkey and ballgames.
