Mississippi family reportedly arrives at funeral home to find wrong woman in casket
The family of Mary Jean Robinson arrived at a Jackson, Miss., funeral home for her services, only to find another woman in the casket.
WLBT in Jackson reports that Georgia Robinson said she knew immediately after arriving for her sister’s funeral something was terribly wrong.
“Once we got in there and signed the books and everything, we were walking down to view her body, and I knew something was kind of off. I could tell that it wasn’t her from far back,” Georgia told the TV station.
Worse still, Georgia Robinson said the other woman in the casket was wearing the clothes and jewelry the Robinson family had brought for Mary Jean to wear.
“No ma’am, this is not my sister,” Georgia Robinson said. “This is her casket, this is the outfit that we brought her, this is the jewelry that we brought her, and I said these are her flowers, but I didn’t know who that is in the casket.”
Georgia Robinson described the director of Peoples Funeral Home in Jackson as “very rude and very uncaring,” according to the report, telling the family they would have to pay for another service.
WLBT reported the funeral home ultimately reached an agreement with the Robinson family, including buying new clothes for Mary Jean, but used the same casket.
“I feel terrible,” Georgia Robinson said. “Just to think, if we had a closed casket, we would have ended up burying someone else’s loved one instead of ours.”
