A Fairfield man was killed in a fiery crash Monday on Interstate 59 in Birmingham.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Jerry D. Gardner. He was 56.

The crash happened at 1:15 p.m. on I-59, less than one mile south of Fairfield.

Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal said that Gardner was driving a Chevrolet Impala that left the interstate, struck a tree, and caught fire. Gardner was pronounced dead on the scene.

Troopers are investigating.
