Troyâs Javon Solomon honored by Sun Belt Conference
Troy defensive end Javon Solomon was named Monday as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Solomon, a junior from Tallahassee, Fla., tied a Trojans program record with four sacks in a 45-14 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. He also had eight tackles and a quarterback hurry as Troy held ULM to 309 yards of total offense in clinching the Sun Belt West Division title.
Solomon is the second Troy defensive player to win the Sun Belt weekly award this season, joining outside linebacker Richard Jibunor (Week 7). Running back Kimani Vidal (Week 6) and quarterback Gunnar Watson (Week 9) have won the award on offense, while kicker Scott Taylor Renfroe (Week 7) picked up the special teams honor in Week 7.
In addition, Solomon and Jibunor were named the Reese’s Senior Bowl’s national Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Jibunor had 3.5 sacks against ULM as part of a 9-sack day for the Trojans.
James Madison quarterback Jordan McCloud was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week after passing for 457 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-6 win over Connecticut. Marshall return specialist Jayden Harrison earned Special Teams honors after returning the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in a 38-33 win over Georgia Southern.
