Auburn’s Hugh Freeze says he’s ‘on-call’, expecting grandbaby No. 2 on Monday

Few have had as good as a week as Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze.

Before he and the Auburn Tigers dismantled the Arkansas Razorbacks in a 48-10 win to reach bowl eligibility, they celebrated the news that the No. 1 safety out of the junior college ranks, Laquan Robinson, committed to Auburn on Friday afternoon.

Come Saturday night after the win over the Razorbacks, Freeze learned that he and the Tigers successfully flipped 4-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller away from Billy Napier and the Florida Gators, adding a big pickup to Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class.

Auburn picked up another commitment on Sunday as 4-star 2025 tight end Ryan Ghea committed to the Tigers.

And as big as each of those wins were for Freeze, they likely won’t top Monday’s news.

“I’m expecting my second grandbaby,” Freeze said to polish off his press conference Monday morning. “Y’all pray for my daughter. She’s in labor right now. So we’re expecting that.”

Freeze is still somewhat new to the grandfather scene as his daughter, Ragan Freeze Reynolds, gifted him with his first grandchild on July 2 of this year.

Freeze’s first granddaughter, Hudson Blair Reynold, was named after him, according to Ragan Freeze Reynolds’ Instagram.

“I’ve always dreamed of naming my baby after my hero,” Freeze Reynolds wrote. “And this little baby girl has no idea what she’s getting with her ‘Coach. No one will ever be able to love him the way I do, but I know she’ll be so proud to be named after him one day.”

Hudson’s middle name, Blair, means “dweller on the plain,” paying homage to Auburn.

Freeze’s daughter Jordan Freeze McManus, who previously attended Auburn, is the one in labor now.

After Freeze’s press conference, he told reporters he was on call to head over to the hospital at any moment. He added that he was looking forward to holding the baby before quickly returning to work as Auburn prepares for Saturday’s game against New Mexico State.
