Could Huntsville home sales frenzy return in 2024? Experts say it’s possible

Could the Huntsville housing market see a return to the frenzy that saw houses sold in just days and well over asking price?

The new CEO of the Huntsville Area Association of Realtors believes that could be the case if interest rates begin to fall in the coming months.

“From my point of view, I wouldn’t say this as a policy statement, but personally, if you’re looking to buy a home, there is no time like the present, because home values don’t traditionally slide backwards,” said Kurtis Krueger, who took over as CEO a couple of month ago. “You always have the opportunity to refinance when those rates come lower.”

Krueger said information from Lawrence Yun, chief economic advisor from the National Association of Realtors, indicates that rates will likely pull back to the mid-to-low 7s by the end of the year.

“But at spring of next year, we could be looking into 6s for interest rates,” he said. “At that point, because humans don’t have memories that last very long, there will be a flood of people back into the market again.”
