Where are the most expensive homes in the Birmingham metro?
Homebuyers shopping in the southern or southeastern parts of the Birmingham metro could be spending anywhere between $100,000-$600,000 more than people shopping in other surrounding cities, according to a recent Stacker report.
The report ranked 30 cities with the most expensive homes in the Birmingham metro area using data from real estate search site Zillow. The top ten cities are mostly in the southern part of the Birmingham metro, with a couple spread further to the east. The gap in typical home values between the 30th city in the list, Leeds ($239,685) and the most expensive city on the list, Mountain Brook ($889,102) surpasses $600,000.
Local realtor Ginger Busby said that the three most expensive cities, Mountain Brook, Homewood, and Vestavia Hills were certain to keep their rankings for years to come. This could be attributed to strong public-school systems, great city services, and proximity to Birmingham’s city center, she said. Cities with proximity to water like Lake Purdy and Wilsonville will also maintain higher value on the market, she said.
