Hurricane forecasters to watch Caribbean next week

The Atlantic hurricane season isn’t quite ready to be over just yet.

The National Hurricane Center on Saturday highlighted an area in the southern Caribbean it will be monitoring for possible tropical development over the next week.

The hurricane center has given it a low probability of becoming a tropical depression — only 30 percent as of Saturday morning.

Forecasters said a broad area of low pressure is expected to form in the southwest Caribbean by midweek. Conditions could support some gradual development through next weekend.

It’s too soon to say if anything develops or where it could go. The hurricane center said the system was expected to drift around the Caribbean into next weekend.

The Atlantic hurricane season has been a busy one as far as the number of storms goes — 19 so far. The next name on the storm list is Vince. The last official day of the season will be Nov. 30.
