Spanish Fort knocks off Bessemer City

Quarterback Aaden Shamburger threw two touchdown passes as Spanish Fort defeated visiting Bessemer City 28-0

Sawyer Wilson scored a rushing touchdown and caught a TD pass, and Drew Williamson added another on the ground

Spanish Fort (9-2) improved to 11-0 all-time at home in the first round of the playoffs.

The Toros (9-2) led 21-0 at halftime as they outgained the Purple Tigers, 206-19, with 134 yards on the ground. They produced three 50-plus yard drives, including a 12-play, 90-yard possession with Wilson’s second touchdown of the half, a 6-yard catch from Shamburger with a minute to go in the second quarter.

Earlier, Wilson scored on a 5-yard run to give the Toros a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game. Shamburger also threw a 44-yard pass to Justin Bonner, his only reception.

In the second half, Spanish Fort scored one more time when Drew Williamson ran it in from 4 yards out on his only carry to make it 28-0.

Stat sheet: Shamburger finished 8-of-10 passing for 101 yards and caught one of his own passes for 12 yards. The only interception and Spanish Fort turnover of the night came on a reverse pass by Bonner that was snagged by Bessemer City’s Julius Moultry. Nemo Hixson ran seven times for 67 yards and had a 29-yard reception and Sawyer Wilson had 10 carries for 59 yards.

What’s next?: Spanish Fort travels to Pike Road. Bessemer City finishes the season at 5-6.
