North Alabama woman, 78, believed to be abducted by son, in ‘extreme danger’

Authorities are searching for a 78-year-old north Alabama woman who is believed to have been abducted by her son and may be in “extreme danger.”

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued a missing and endangered person alert for 78-year-old Mary Ann Moore, who was last seen Friday night near Lauderdale County Road 462 in Lexington and was reported missing Saturday.

Moore, who is believed to have been abducted by her son, 47-year-old Kristopher Moore, may be “in danger of bodily harm or death,” ALEA said.

Kristopher Moore, who lives in a camper behind his mother’s home, drove Mary Ann Moore to a bank on Friday. Mary Ann Moore “withdrew a large amount of money from her account,” according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.

Kristopher Moore “has been reported as being violent and mentally unstable,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Moores were discovered missing around 7 a.m. Saturday and have not been seen by friends and family since.

It was unclear what vehicle they may have used.

“Due to Mr. Moore’s recent erratic behavior, it is believed by law enforcement that Ms. Moore is in extreme danger,” the sheriff’s office said.

Mary Ann Moore was described as 5-feet 6-inches tall, 135 pounds with blue eyes and gray or partially gray hair.

Kristopher Moore was described as 5-feet 10-inches tall, 175 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He also has a Celtic cross tattoo on his chest.

Anyone with information on the Moores’ whereabouts was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 256-760-5769 or 911.
