Baldwin County man charged with felony assault on elementary-age family member
A Baldwin County man is in jail after investigators say he assaulted an elementary-age girl, pushing her against a wall, then kicking, slapping and punching her before further assaulting her with a belt.
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a student reporting to a local elementary school with what was described as significant bruising on her face, back and other parts of her body. A Baldwin County deputy, working as a School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified, initiating an investigation.
Baldwin County investigators worked with the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, which conducted a forensic interview, revealing the details of the assault on the child, who the sheriff’s office said was a Nall family member and was assaulted at home.
That investigation led to Tuesday arrest of 36-year-old Dustin Shane Nall of Perdido, Ala. Nall is charged with torturing/willful abuse of a child, a Class C felony in Alabama, which carries a minimum prison sentence of one year and a fine of up to $15,000.
“This investigation was a collaborative effort between school staff, School Resource Officers, investigators and our partners at the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center,” the BCSO said in a release. “Our team effort resulted in a swift resolution to this case, and we know this child is now in a safe environment because of their efforts.”
As of Thursday morning, Nall remained in the Baldwin County Jail under $15,000 bond.
