College Football Week 11 picks: Alabama earning a SEC title game berth Saturday is a smart bet

After an impressive win over LSU, Alabama’s championship path is now clear. A win against Kentucky or Auburn will wrap up the Tide’s spot in the SEC Championship Game. An Ole Miss loss by to Georgia or Mississippi State would also do the trick. In other words, by Saturday afternoon, Alabama’s spot in Atlanta will be secure.

But would an 11-1 regular season and win against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game ensure Alabama a spot in the four-team playoff? Surprisingly, the answer is possibly no.

Here’s how the entire SEC could be left out of the playoffs. Michigan, Florida State and Washington finish the season 13-0, including wins in their conference championship games. That leaves just one spot available. If Alabama and Texas are both 12-1 and conference champions, it would be hard to pick the team that lost at home by double-digits to the other contender.

Of course, upsets are going to happen almost every week. One or more of those teams could be eliminated this week.

On to the picks and don’t forget to play along here.
