Auburn golf signs Billy and Anna Davis, both twins ranked No. 1 in their class
The Auburn men’s and women’s golf teams signed a pair of No. 1 ranked twins in Billy and Anna Davis during Wednesday’s signing day, the teams announced.
Anna Davis is the top-ranked junior golfer regardless of class in the country and the sixth-ranked amateur in the world — a category that includes current college golfers.
At just 17 years old, Billy Davis has already played on the PGA Tour. He shot four under par on the front nine during the first round of the World Wide Technology Championship last week in Mexico — his first nine holes ever of professional golf. He would go on to shoot under par overall through the first two rounds, but missed the cut.
Billy Davis finished second at the 2023 Junior PGA Championship.
The twins went to Rome this summer to play with the United States team at the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup.
“Billy comes to Auburn from a wonderful family,” men’s golf head coach Nick Clinard said in a press release. “Not only is he an outstanding student but also an extremely talented young man that has earned his status as the top player in the nation through his work ethic, passion for the game and competitiveness. He will be a tremendous asset to our program. Billy loves Auburn and Auburn will love him and his sister as soon as they arrive.”
Anna Davis’ resume is already loaded with significant international amateur championships. Yet maybe the most respect she has been given by Auburn came from one of her losses.
Current Auburn graduate student golfer Megan Schofill beat Anna Davis during match play on her way to winning the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship. Schofill’s coaches and parents all said that once she beat Davis was the moment they truly believed she could go on to win the whole tournament.
It was Schofill, with years of college experience behind her, winning in an upset over a high schooler.
“The young lady is super talented,” head coach Melissa Luellen said in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. “I started to watch her and the next thing you know she, within a couple of weeks, wins the PGA Junior Championship by a bunch of strokes and she was, boom, on the map. She’s gone on to win the Augusta Women’s National Amateur Championship.”
The Davis’ are from Spring Valley, California. In a press release, Billy Davis listed Cypress Point as his favorite course.
