Homewood Middle School students kept inside as police search for burglary suspect

A search for a burglary suspect led to Homewood Middle School students and staff being kept inside the building Wednesday morning.

A burglary happened earlier Wednesday on Valley View Circle. Police said the suspect is also believed to have been responsible for a couple of other break-ins in recent weeks.

Today’s search led to all students, faculty, and staff members to remain inside the school as part of a “secure the perimeter safety protocol.” That protocol is not as serious as a full lockdown.

“While there is no imminent danger to our school, precautionary steps have been put in place due to police activity near our campus,’’ an email to parents read.”

“During a secure perimeter situation, classes and activities continue as scheduled inside the school building,’’ according to the email. “During this time, no one may enter or exit the school. Please know that our students and staff are having a wonderful day inside the building.”

Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said shortly before noon they were about to clear from the area after not finding the felony suspect.
