Suspect, 18, charged with murder in shooting death of 14-year-old Montgomery boy
A suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Montgomery.
Montgomery police said Demericon Crosskey, 18, is charged with murder in the slaying of Deanthony “D.J.” Vickers.
Crosskey was taken into custody Thursday. He is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
No other details were released.
D.J. was walking from his girlfriend’s house to his cousin’s house on Monday when he was shot.
“He was in the wrong place at the wrong time,’’ said his grieving father, Deanthony Vickers. “It’s tragic. That was my oldest son.”
Just before 5 p.m. Monday, Montgomery police responded to the 4800 block of Park Town Way on a report of a person shot. They found 14-year-old D.J. wounded and rushed him to the hospital, said police Capt. Jarrett Williams.
D.J. died at the hospital midday Wednesday.
He played football at Carver High School in Montgomery and was a wresting standout.
“He was very athletic, smart, respectable and well-mannered,’’ Vickers said. “Three of his teachers have called me already. He was just one of those special kids.”
