Alabama couple face multiple charges in Jan. 6 attack on U.S. Capitol

An Alabama couple arrested earlier this week face multiple charges related to the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents.

Federal investigators say surveillance video, mobile data and a witness statement were used to identify Dylan Bowling, 32, and 30-year-old Marissa Lee Bowling of Loxley.

Arrest warrants were issued for the couple on Oct. 30, and they appeared before a federal judge on Nov. 2. The Bowlings were released from federal custody on their own recognizance and can’t leave the state while their case remains pending.

Since the attack, the FBI has been working to identify individuals in videos and photos captured during the event in order to carry out arrests.

Videos obtained from YouTube and TikTok show who investigators believe to be Marissa in a dark stocking cap, light pink jacket, dark pants and a black backpack while Dylan is believed to be shown wearing a stocking cap, dark jacket, dark pants, goggles and a camouflage backpack.

An image taken from CCTV video footage is part of evidence investigators are using to show Dylan and Marissa Bowling allegedly walking through the House Wing of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in Washington D.C.file photo

Photo and video evidence show two people believed to be the couple entering the U.S. Capitol building through a broken window near the Senate wing door, according to court documents.

After being in the building for about 21 minutes, the couple exited through the same broken window, investigators said.

According to court documents, the Bowlings face the following charges:

  • Knowingly enter or remain in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
  • Knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of government business
  • Disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds
  • Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building

Court documents state that investigators interviewed the Bowlings separately. Both admitted to traveling to Washington, D.C. for a rally on Jan. 6 but denied entering the building, investigators said.

However, investigators also spoke to a witness who knows the couple and identified Marissa as the person in the pink jacket in one of the photos. The witness was also shown a picture of who investigators say is Dylan. The witness stated that they were “90%” sure that it was him, according to court documents.
