Class 5A John Carroll rolls to 44-7 win over 1A power Maplesville

The Cavaliers scored on their first two possessions, taking a 14-0 lead on a 44-yard run from Zach Archer and a 14-yard run by Mitchell Nutter, and starting quarterback Carson McFadden broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter to extend the advantage to three scores.

Charles Farr added a 35-yard field goal for a 24-0 lead with 3:18 remaining in the first half and McFadden connected with Ryan Redmond on an 11-yard touchdown pass for a 31-0 lead heading into halftime.

McFadden took the first snap of the second half before making his exit and the Cavaliers finished off the opening drive with Archer crashing into the end zone from a yard out. Sophomore quarterback Benjamin Barnes found Redmond for an 80-yard touchdown pass that was called back on a holding call, but connected again two plays later on a 59-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring.
