A 74-year-old Birmingham has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to prison for the 2019 stabbing death of his younger brother.

Jimmy Farley was initially charged with murder in the June 2019 killing of 60-year-old Clarence Farley.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to 1212 33rd St. Southwest around 4:18 p.m. that day to investigate a report of an assault. Once there, officers found Clarence Farley unresponsive next to a vehicle in the parking lot with an apparent stab wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported Clarence Farley to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Jimmy Farley was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a murder warrant. He was released months later bond.

The deadly stabbing happened during an argument between the two brothers.

Jimmy Farley on Sept. 19 pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter. He entered a blind plea, which means there was no agreement with prosecutors on what sentence he would receive.

On Thursday, Jefferson County Stephen Wallace sentenced Jimmy Farley to 12 years in prison with 2 ½ years to serve.

Jimmy Farley was booked back into the Jefferson County Jail Thursday to await transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

“Mr. Farley is sorry he took the life of his brother,’’ said his attorney, Emory Anthony. “It was just a sad situation.”
