Indianapolis woman identified as homicide victim found in Birmingham alley

Authorities have released the name of a woman found shot to death in a Birmingham alley earlier this week.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim as Felicia Raquel Smith. She was 32 and lived in Indianapolis.

A utility worker made the discovery at 11:58 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue S.W. Smith was in the grass on the shoulder of the alley.

She was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:19 p.m.

Initially her death was unclassified, but a Tuesday autopsy showed Smith had been shot.

Authorities said her family told them they did not know why she was in Birmingham.

No arrests have been announced.
