College Football Week 10 picks: SEC features playoff elimination games with Tide-LSU, UGA-Mizzou

The College Football Playoff Committee has spoken. Tuesday night’s initial rankings revealed what the committee members think about each conference as much as it did about the individual teams.

If the four-team playoff began today, there would be two teams from the Big Ten (Ohio State and Michigan), and one each from the SEC (Georgia) and ACC (Florida State). Just outside the top four are PAC-12 leaders Washington and Oregon.

Of course, No. 1 Ohio State still must face Michigan, so there is going to be movement in the coming weeks. The winner of Ohio State-Michigan, plus Georgia, Florida State and the winner of the expected Washington-Oregon rematch have the inside track to a playoff berth.

But what happens if the SEC champion isn’t Georgia? Would Alabama, Missouri, LSU or even Ole Miss slide into that spot currently held by the Bulldogs? That’s not a given.

What is clear is all four of those challengers to Georgia in the SEC face a tough elimination game this weekend. At least one won’t remain alive in the championship hunt after this weekend.
