Auburn junior center Johni Broome injured early in exhibition, Bruce Pearl gives update

Johni Broome writhing on the hardwood of Neville Arena wasn’t what Auburn wanted to see in in Wednesday night’s exhibition game against Auburn-Montgomery.

But after less than three minutes of game clock had expired, that was the scene on the north end of the court as Broome dove after a loose ball and landed on his right arm/shoulder.

While Broome was slow to pick himself up off the floor as he was tended to by Auburn’s athletic training staff, he eventually walked off the floor on his own power, but made a beeline to the locker room. He eventually returned to Auburn’s bench with ice applied to his right shoulder.

With seven minutes to play in the first half, a team spokesperson announced Broome would miss the remainder of Wednesday’s exhibition, which Auburn went on to win 102-66.

Pearl called Broome’s injury a “little bit of a pinch” in his rotator cuff.

“He should be okay,” Pearl said.

Broome returned to Auburn after leading the Tigers in scoring last season with an average of 14.2 points per game and going on to test the NBA Draft waters before announcing his return to The Plains in late May.
