Mobile County man charged with killing dog with crossbow faces 10 years in prison

A 20-year-old Wilmer man is facing up to 10 years in state prison after investigators say he deliberately shot and killed a dog with a crossbow and wounding another.

Court and jail records show Cody Monroe Brown was arrested Oct. 25 and charged with aggravated animal cruelty in the incident. Information on the dog’s owners or condition of the wounded dog were not immediately available.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Brown was busy on Oct. 13.

On the same day as the crossbow incident, investigators say he attempted to run over another Wilmer man with a golf cart “creating a substantial risk of serious physical injury,” according to court documents.

The golf cart incident resulted in a charge of reckless endangerment against Brown.

After deputies executed the arrest warrants on Brown Oct. 25, he was taken to Mobile Metro Jail, where he posted total bond of $5,500 for the two charges and was released.

Aggravated animal cruelty is a Class C felony in Alabama, punishable by a prison sentence of 1-10 years. Reckless endangerment is a Class A misdemeanor and carries a maximum sentence of one year and a fine of up to $6,000.
