A 21-year-old man is being held without bond in connection with a deadly shooting in Gadsden.

Police were dispatched at 9:29 p.m. Friday to a report of a person shot at Fresh Value at Canterbury Station, which is on West Meighan Boulevard, said Capt. Bobby Jackson.

When they arrived, they found the victim on the ground in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police on Monday identified the victim as Briantez Vinson. He was 24 and lived in Gadsden.

Jackson said detectives – within 36 hours – were able to identify and arrest the suspect. A motive has not been disclosed.

D’amon Johnson, 21, also of Gadsden, is charged murder. He is being held without bond on the Etowah County Jail.

Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford thanked first responders for their work on the case.

“I also want to ask everyone to join me in praying for the families affected by this tragedy,’’ Ford said. “I hope that justice will be served in this case so our community can heal.”
