What does Alabamaâs Nick Saban want for his 72nd birthday? âA win this weekâ
It’s a big week for Nick Saban. Alabama football faces the team he used to coach, LSU, in a game that could decide the SEC West.
Tuesday is also Saban’s 72nd birthday. During his Monday press conference, Saban was asked what kind of gift he was looking for.
“The game’s the most important thing,” Saban said. “That would be an outstanding birthday present if we could play well in this game and so that’s what I’m focused on and that’s what we’re really trying to do.”
Typically, Alabama has had its bye week around Saban’s birthday, which falls on Halloween each year. UA was idle Saturday after beating Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Oct. 21.
On Monday, Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe was asked if the team had any plans for Saban’s big day.
“I think the biggest gift he wants is a win this week,” Milroe said. “We all know that in the locker room, but we’re all definitely gonna tell him happy birthday. He’s getting old, but he still acts young, that’s the funny part. He does everything young. He’s a lot of fun.”
Saban also discussed how celebrating his birthday has typically gone during the season.
“When your birthdays and holidays come up during football season, they’re really not holidays and they’re really not birthdays,” Saban said. “You get older, but you don’t really celebrate much.”
Alabama and LSU are scheduled to kick off at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be aired on CBS.
