Kirby Smart claps back at Dan Mullen for picking Florida over Georgia
Kirby Smart had a few choice words for Dan Mullen after the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs took care of the Florida Gators 43-20.
Mullen, the former Florida coach turned college football analyst, not only picked the Gators to win the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party,” he also said the Bulldogs shouldn’t be in the top 4 when talking about the College Football Playoff.
“It’s unbelievable, I mean the atmosphere,” Mullen said during halftime of South Carolina–Texas A&M game, per On3. “Listen, I think anybody can win this game because of the rivalry part of it coming in, the stadium’s split right down the middle. It’s an amazing atmosphere. Florida absolutely can win this game. I think Florida does win the game.”
Joey Galloway found the comments interesting as the CFP rankings are revealed on Tuesday.
“I already think they’re not (in the top 4),” Mullen said. “Somebody else is going to have to lose. I think they’re not in.”
Carson Beck threw two touchdown passes in his hometown, Daijun Edwards ran for two scores and No. 1 Georgia dominated Florida to extend its winning streak to 25. The two-time defending national champion Bulldogs have now won three in a row and six of seven in the rivalry.
After the game, Smart talked about Mullen’s comments, taking a swipe at Mullen’s recruiting.
“I don’t see it or hear it,” Mullen said. “But I know it is out there. Someone texted me before the game. All these people predicting we’re not going to win today. … Where’s that comin’ from?” Smart asked. “(Mullen is) supposed to be my friend. He didn’t like to recruit, though.”
