41-year-old man found slain on Birmingham roadside

An investigation is underway after a man was found slain in Wylam earlier today.

Birmingham police have identified the victim as Kevin J. Davis. He was 41 and lived in Birmingham.

The discovery was made about 6 a.m. Thursday. West Precinct officers were dispatched to a call of a person down in the 300 block of Lexington Street.

When they arrived, they found Davis on the side of the roadway. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Police initially said the death was unclassified. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later concluded Davis had been shot.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said details are limited. There is no one in custody.

Davis is Birmingham’s 108th homicide victim this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and eight others have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 153 homicides including the 108 in Birmingham.

Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
