Video captures Florida man finding an iguana in his toilet
That would certainly qualify as an eye-opener.
A Florida man awoke last Saturday morning, walked into his bathroom and discovered a large iguana lounging in his toilet, as captured on video widely circulated on social media and other outlets.
Hollywood, Fla., man Gary Greenspan was the unsuspecting homeowner who found the large, green lizard bathing in his toilet. Despite his expected shock at finding the creature in his toilet, Greenspan had the presence of mind to grab his phone and record the incident.
“There’s nothing like getting up in the morning and finding an iguana in your toilet,” Greenspan says in the 35-second video. “It is alive. I’m waiting on animal control to come and get this thing out of here.”
Greenspan joked that perhaps the iguana was looking for “a spa day.”
“Once they remove it, I’ll be a happy camper,” Greenspan says in the video, “and hopefully so will the iguana.”
Iguanas have become something of a pest in Florida, with the reptiles listed among banned species by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Committee, due to their proclivity for causing environmental hazards.
Among the havoc wreaked by iguanas are torn up sidewalks, spreading salmonella, damage to utility lines and more.
In addition, it’s become commonplace for iguanas to suddenly drop from trees during cold weather in Florida. Videos of the reptiles plunging to the ground sprout up all over the internet when temperatures drop near freezing, which causes iguanas to lose the ability to control their muscles.
The National Weather Service even references falling iguanas in its cold weather forecasts for the Sunshine State.
