Who is Hollis Wright Birmingham Week 9 Player of the Week?
The Week 9 Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week turned in an outstanding all-around performance and captured 31 percent of the votes cast in the poll.
Oak Grove senior running back/linebacker Collin Pate got 6,826 votes to earn top honors after his outing in a 42-21 win at Cordova. Pate ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries for the Tigers, who improved to 5-3 and 4-2 in Class 4A, Region 5 action. Pate added 10 tackles, two behind the line of scrimmage, and forced a fumble in the win.
Hoover sophomore Jonah Winston was second in the voting after his outing in a 41-7 win at Chelsea. He ran seven times for 186 yards and three touchdowns, caught three passes for 24 yards and returned a punt 23 yards for the Bucs.
John Carroll quarterback Carson McFadden finished third in the balloting after rolling up 322 total yards in a 35-12 win at Jasper. McFadden ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns, completed 12-of-15 passes for 183 yards with three TDs for the Cavaliers. The senior also punted three times, with two being downed inside the 10-yard line in the victory for 6-2 John Carroll.
Voting for the Hollis Wright Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.
