Cullman man convicted of murder in deadly 2020 stabbing

A 46-year-old man has been convicted in the 2020 stabbing death of another man in Cullman County.

A jury late Tuesday returned a guilty verdict against Nathan Winston Stephens. He was convicted of murder in the slaying of 56-year-old Herndon Self Jr. a husband, father, and grandfather.

The fatal stabbing happened Sept. 12, 2020, in a car at the intersection of County Road 157 and U.S. 31 in Cullman.

The two-day trial began Monday with Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker and Assistant District Attorney Tina Burgett prosecuting.

Following the guilty verdict, Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas remanded Stephens into custody pending sentencing. A date has not yet been set.
