Auburn lost its first game under interim head coach Cadillac Williams, falling 39-33 in overtime after rallying from a 21-point first-half deficit

The Tigers have now lost five straight games and are 3-6 on the season with three games to play.

— He opens up talking about how proud he is of the team’s effort tonight, even in defeat. Auburn lost, “didn’t complete the mission,” but he said it doesn’t feel like a loss.

— Defense gave up yards early, but “they kept serving, kept fighting” throughout the game and kept Auburn in it. Nobody quit, Williams says.

— On how much hope he thinks tonight instilled in this team: “This game — the future is bright at Auburn.”

— He says people have no idea what Auburn went through this week. Of course, there was Monday’s coaching change but he says the team was “putting out fires everywhere” this week, which impacted preparation.

— Williams says, 100 percent, his approach was to keep everyone positive. He told the coaching staff early in the week that, in times like this, the kids need their leadership, whether they know it or not.

— When asked about special teams, Williams says “that’s where the discipline part has to come in,” but stresses it’s on him to get that right. “We’ve got to get better with the discipline piece; that’s something I have to emphasize. That’s completely on me.”

— On second-half adjustments this week: Monday-Thursday, he says he got about six hours of sleep. He got about 3-4 hour of sleep last night, at least. The offensive coaches have been in the building scrambling until 1 or 2 a.m. every day this week. Called Monday’s news a “bombshell,” and then the week after that was insane. “We were believing,” but the goal was to keep it close.

— “This night was special for me. All day, it just felt right.”
