Las Vegas Raiders release former Auburn tight end again

The practice-squad revolving door caught John Samuel Shenker again on Tuesday as the Las Vegas Raiders parted ways with the former Auburn tight end for the third time.

Signed as an undrafted rookie in May, Shenker was waived at the end of the preseason when Las Vegas reduced its active roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players.

The Raiders brought Shenker right back, though, as a member of their practice squad.

After Shenker spent the first four weeks of the season on the practice squad, Las Vegas released him on Oct. 5.

On Oct. 18, the Raiders re-signed Shenker for the practice squad. But he was released again on Tuesday along with linebacker Mykal Walker as Las Vegas signed linebacker Darius Harris and kicker James McCourt for the practice squad.

Each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad members to active status for each game, but Shenker has not played this season.

In five seasons at Auburn, Shenker set a school record by playing in 62 games, and he also became the Tigers’ career leader for receptions by a tight end with 68 for 779 yards and three touchdowns.
