Buddy Guy shows in Alabama postponed due to ‘medical issue’

Due to a medical issue, a string performances by blues legend Buddy Guy in Alabama this week have been rescheduled for summer 2024.

Guy was to have appeared Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Mobile Saenger Theatre; Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre; and Friday, Oct. 27 at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham.

The Saenger notified patrons that its show was being rescheduled to July 23 “due to a medical issue affecting the artist.” Previously purchased ticket will be valid for the rescheduled show, according to the venue, which said that refunds and other information “is available at your original point of purchase.”

The Montgomery venue’s website posted a similar notice, saying its show had been reset for July 24. Ticketmaster listed the Alabama Theater show as rescheduled for July 26. Ticketmaster still listed 2023 dates starting with a North Carolina performance on Oct. 28.

According to published reports, Guy, 87, also canceled or postponed concerts in June and September for medical reasons. At the time of one September postponement, Guy was quoted as saying, “My medical team has advised me to reschedule some of my upcoming shows. Please note that this decision was not made lightly, but is in the best interest of my health and well-being.”

“Team BG” provided a “Damn Right Farewell Tour Update” Monday on Guy’s Facebook page. “Buddy has chosen to postpone the next four upcoming tour dates in Mobile AL, Montgomery AL, Birmingham AL, and Cherokee NC,” it said. “Again, we sincerely apologize to the fans for the inconvenience and we thank you all so much for your patience while we continue to prioritize health and wellness.”

Over the weekend, Guy was featured on “CBS Sunday Morning.” The segment noted that current tour plans called for Guy to continue touring at least through spring.
