3 killed in weekend Jeffco crashes including a hit-and-run and a collision with a train

Three people were killed in weekend traffic crashes, including a hit-and-run and a separate wreck involving a train in west Birmingham.

Only one of the three fatality victims’ names has been released.

On Friday, an 83-year-old man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Gardendale. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified him as Sidney Andrew Love.

The wreck happened a 10:33 a.m. on Decatur Highway at Snow Rogers Road. Love was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:20 a.m.

Early Saturday, about 1:10 a.m., a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the 1400 block of Third Avenue West. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:34 a.m.

He has not yet been identified, but coroner’s officials said he was an adult Black male.

The driver who struck the victim left the scene.

A 52-year-old man was killed early Sunday when his vehicle was struck by a train at a Birmingham railroad crossing.

The coroner’s office said they have identified him but have not yet been able to notify his family.

The crash happened at 1:11 a.m. in the 900 block of 15th Place S.W. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:29 a.m.

Authorities said he was the driver and lone occupant of a 2005 Lexus LS 430 that was hit by a train at the crossing.
