Tuscaloosa man dies in head-on crash with sheriff’s deputy vehicle
A 24-year-old from Tuscaloosa has died after a pre-dawn crash Saturday.
According to a press release, Robert Brooks Robles was driving a Honda Accord around 2:07 a.m. when it collided head on into a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department patrol unit.
Robles was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Hugh Thomas Bridge at the time of the crash.
Both Robles and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy inside of the car at the time were transported to an area hospital. Robles was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the sheriff’s deputy was treated for injuries and released Saturday morning.

Robles’ friends and family took to Facebook early this morning to share their grief and heartbreak over the news.
“May God welcome you into his kingdom little brother,” wrote his sister Chelsea Trevino on Facebook around 6 a.m. this morning. “Gone Too Soon but never forgotten.”
Friend Jayla Huff Cole wrote on Facebook Saturday morning about how selfless Robles was.
“Robert Robles was someone who would give the shirt off his back and not look for anything in return. You will be missed bro,” Cole said.
The accident is still being investigated by Northport Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit.
