Man with car trouble calls Brighton police, gets âjump off to jailâ for attempted murder warrant
A Brighton man got a little more than he bargained for this morning when he called police for help.
Larry Darnell Pinkard, 61, called the Brighton Police Department just before 3 a.m. Thursday.
He told them he was in the 200 block of Oakmont Street and his car needed a jump start.
Brighton police arrived at the scene and began the process to verify that the vehicle belonged to Pinkard. In doing so, said Lt. Kenneth Hooten, they realized Pinkard was a wanted man.
Pinkard had outstanding warrants for attempted murder and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
The wreck happened at 11 a.m. on Aug. 12 on 39th Street in Brighton.
When first responders arrived at the location, they found another 61-year-old man who told them he had been lying there all night.
The victim told them that Pinkard ran over him and then backed up over him again, Hooten said.
Warrants against Pinkard were issued on Sept. 26. Hooten said Pinkard was notified at that time.
“How are you going to call the police to get a jump off and you know you have an outstanding warrant for attempted murder?’’ Hooten said. “He got a jump off to jail.”
Pinkard was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 3:54 a.m. today. He remains held on bonds totaling $58,000.
