Defender is Week 9 Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week
Two Coastal Alabama defenders stood out to the 4,389 voters in the Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Player of the Week balloting – including the Week 8 winner Ji Lang of Vigor.
Lang, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior linebacker, registered 16 tackles – 5 for a loss – 2 sacks, 2 quarterback pressure and intercepted a pass in the Wolves’ 31-0 shutout at home over LeFlore. Lang got 28 percent of the total votes in the weekly poll.
Theodore sophomore J.J. Bush was third in the voting after a pair of interceptions in the Bobcats’ 35-0 win over Blount.
Senior quarterback Jared Hollins of Class 7A No. 4 Mary G. Montgomery was second in the week’s voting. Hollins, who is a University of South Alabama commitment, passed for two touchdowns in the first half and ran for two in the second in a 35-14 win over then-No. 7 Baker. He completed 13-of-19 passes for 201 yards.
Voting for the Cunningham Bounds Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.
In Week 8, more than 31,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
