Auburn DB coach Wesley McGriff temporarily stepping away from on-field duties, still with team
Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff is temporarily stepping away from on-field duties, AL.com confirmed Wednesday night. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello.
According to Marcello, McGriff is still working with the team daily as he gives attention to a “personal matter.”
Meanwhile, Tanner Burns is set to fill the on-field position in McGriff’s absence. Burns currently serves as Auburn’s special teams coordinator, but previously served as co-linebacker’s coach at Liberty University. Burns is a graduate of Ole Miss.
McGriff is currently in his third stint with Auburn football having returned to The Plains as part of Hugh Freeze’s first-year coaching staff. McGriff previously held assistant coaching positions at Auburn in 2016 and again in 2019-20.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
