Missouri head football coach Eli Drinkwitz has received a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season, the school announced Saturday.

Drinkwitz is 15-16 in his third season with the Tigers, including 4-4 this season. Missouri has won two straight games heading into Saturday’s home game with Kentucky.

“Like the university and Missouri athletics, Mizzou football is on an upward trajectory, and Coach Drinkwitz is a key part of those efforts,” said Darryl Chatman, chair of the UM Board of Curators. “As a board, we continue to support setting higher expectations and making progress in all that we do as a university. That applies to research, academics and athletics. We look forward to watching Coach Drinkwitz build Mizzou football into a championship program.”

The 39-year-old Drinkwitz was head coach at Appalachian State for one season before being hired at Missouri in 2020. His Mountaineers team went 12-1 and won the Sun Belt Conference championship.

Prior to getting his first head-coaching job, Drinkwitz was offensive coordinator at North Carolina State (2016-18), Boise State (2017) and Arkansas State (2013). He began his college coaching career as a quality control assistant under Gus Malzahn and Gene Chizik at Auburn in 2010.

“My family and I want to thank the Board of Curators, president (Mun) Choi, and (athletics director Desireé) Reed-Francois for their faith in me as a coach and leader,” Drinkwitz said. “You can’t do this alone, and our players, coaches and staff have worked their tails off and stuck with the process as we’ve built this program. We feel strongly about our trajectory and are proud to represent our state’s flagship institution. We are grateful for the investment in our program from the administration and excited about the future of Mizzou football!”

Drinkwitz’s original contract, which ran through 2025, called for him to be paid around $4 million per year. Terms of his new deal were not disclosed.
