What’s in a name? A whole lot, at least according to people who study trends associated with baby names.

And, according to one such website, naming a baby today has a lot to do with expressing the family’s unique identity.

Naming site Nameberry looked at baby name trends for 2024 and said new parents are more aware than ever of the power “of a name to create a brand, one that defines their children and themselves.”

“Today’s parents are fixated on sending the right messages with the names they choose,” Nameberry creator Pamela Redmond said in a statement. “The perfect baby name for 2024 is one that is ahead of the style curve, personally significant, and identity-defining.”

Here are Nameberry’s top 10 baby name trends for 2024 and the names that best illustrate them:

Girls names for boys – Names that are appealing for their “symbolism, soft and sensitive images, or connections to the past,” Nameberry said.

Examples: Artemis, Blair, Eden, Fern, Greer, Harlow, Jade, Lotus, Morgan, Robin, Willow and Winter.

Feminine feminist names – Feminine yet strong names that reflect individuality

Examples: Althea, Clover, Dorothea, Halston, Honey, Lulu, Palmer, Sinclair, Tallulah and Winslow

Baby men and women – Trend toward serious “adult” names for babies

Examples: Agnes, Carla, Cedric, Constance, Harold, Lars, Lois, Marjorie, Roland, Stanley and Sylvia

Atmospheric names – Names that evoke the open sky

Examples: Aira, Azure, Brisa, Icelynn, Keilani, Lumi, Rain, Solana, Sky, Snow, Sunny and Zephyr

Natural glamour – Unpretentious but with “low-key subtle style,” Nameberry noted.
