Alabama NFL roundup: Jameson Williams produces early

Alabama NFL roundup: Jameson Williams produces early

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was supposed to be completing an NFL suspension on Sunday. Instead, he caught a 45-yard touchdown pass in the Lions’ 20-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The NFL imposed a six-game suspension on Williams on April 21 for violating the league’s gambling policy. The Lions announced Williams had been suspended for betting on non-NFL games at an NFL facility, which is against league policy.

But while Williams was serving his suspension, the NFL had a policy change that made the penalty for the wide receiver’s infraction two games instead of six. Because Williams already had served four games, the NFL suspended his suspension and allowed him to return to the Lions two games early.

In last week’s 42-24 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Williams had two receptions for 2 yards. Against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Williams again had two receptions, but they gained 53 yards.

Williams caught a long throw from quarterback Jared Goff for a 45-yard touchdown reception as Detroit took a 17-6 lead with 3:19 left in the third quarter.

Williams was among the 50 former Alabama players who got on the field on the sixth Sunday of the NFL’s 104th season.
