Missing Walker County man, 62, found dismembered in concrete-covered grave; 30-year-old roommate charged

A body found in a makeshift grave at a Walker County home as been identified as a 62-year-old man reported missing last week.

His roommate has been charged with murder and court documents contend the victim was killed more than one month ago.

Terry Linden Drummond was reported missing to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 7. His roommate, 30-year-old Kevin Chad McLemore, made the missing person’s report, claiming he had last seen Drummond alive when he left for work about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 4.

Sheriff’s officials launched an intense investigation, which included a search warrant at the Harvey Drummond Road home shared by Drummond and McLemore.

On Wednesday, Drummond’s body was found in a shallow grave underneath a staircase outside that home.

McLemore is charged with murder in Drummond’s death. He is also charged with abuse of corpse, according to court records.

“It was a very gruesome, detailed out murder,’’ Sheriff Nick Smith said in a Friday press conference.

He did not elaborate, but charging documents allege McLemore dismembered Drummond’s body, put the remains in a garbage can, filled the garbage can with concrete and buried the victim under a set of stairs at the home.

Sheriff’s Capt. Darrell Mote said Drummond’s remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further testing. The cause of death has not yet been released and a possible motive has not been disclosed.

Court records allege Drummond was killed Sept. 8, and buried by McLemore two days later.

McLemore was booked into the Walker County Jail Wednesday and remains held. He made an initial appearance in court on Friday.
