Injury updates on Jaylin Simpson, Keionte Scott, Damari Alston from Auburn football practice

Auburn safety Jaylin Simpson was participating in agility drills separate from the rest of the Auburn team and out of uniform during a practice viewing window open to reporters Tuesday.

Simpson did not play at the end of Auburn’s loss to No. 1 Georgia on Sept. 30 as he picked up a calf injury. He spoke to reporters earlier Tuesday afternoon. At practice. His calf was wrapped, and he was seen off on the side indoor field going through footwork and agility drills as he recovers from the injury.

On Monday, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said he expects Simpson to play Saturday against LSU. Kickoff for the game in Baton Rouge is set for 6 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN.

Cornerback Keionte Scott was working with Simpson on the indoor field. He injured his ankle against Samford and required surgery. Already back doing drills, Scott is no longer in a boot and seems able to move relatively freely.

Linebacker Austin Keys, who had surgery on his thumb after the season opener against UMass, was on the side field, too. He still has his hand wrapped in a cast, but was seen doing drills with a helmet on for the first time in weeks.

Freeze said both Scott and Keys are still out “for the foreseeable future.”

Damari Alston, who injured his shoulder against Texas A&M, participated in practice with the team during the open window in a yellow non-contact jersey.

This was the first time Alston has been spotted practicing since the Texas A&M game. Of course that does include a bye week which did not have a viewing window.

Freeze described Alston as “doubtful” to play against LSU.

Wide receivers Ja’Varrius Johnson, who has an elbow injury, and Malcolm Johnson Jr., who has an undisclosed injury, were both full participants with no apparent injury designations or restrictions.

Freeze listed Ja’Varrius Johnson as “questionable” and Malcolm Johnson Jr. as “day-to-day.”
