27-year-old woman found dead in Trussville City Jail cell now identified

Authorities have released the name of the woman who died Sunday night in the Trussville City Jail.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified her as Kristen Shae Gray. She was 27 and lived in Pell City.

Gray was a Leeds Police Department inmate being housed at the Trussville City Jail, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.

Jail staff performing a routine cell check found the woman unresponsive at 11:15 p.m. Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the jail at 11:28 p.m.

Yates said an autopsy performed Monday showed no signs of trauma or foul play in her death.

Trussville police Lt. Clint Riner said toxicology testing is ongoing.

Authorities haven’t released when she was booked into the jail and on what charges.
